He started with an apprenticeship in Ireland whilst he was still at school, training to become a barman. At the time in Ireland the 5 year apprenticeship was the only way to become a successful bar person and his history proves this to be true. He came over to England in 1977 and started working in the bars around Stoke on Trent, starting in the Kings arms in stoke, working in construction to help pay the way. The construction work took me around Europe where he observed the methods and culture of the bars abroad. |

The First pub they owned was the Sea Lion in Stoke, managed a number other pubs throughout the UK and Europe and then in 2000 took possessions of the Beehive and is still there today ("for his sins" so he says). The whole family truly enjoys life at the beehive, as is evident by the warm welcome they give to both newcomers and regulars. |
